TRISH ARMSTRONG-GIBSON, BIOGRAPHY
As a single parent of two children, I went back to school at the age of 26 to complete my Grade 12. The next year I started three years at Kwantlen College majoring in Fine Arts. I graduated from this program with an Associate Diploma in Fine Arts with President's Honours (GPA 3.93) and numerous awards. The year after graduation, in September 1990, I moved to Logan Lake with my spouse of two years and our combined family. With the responsibility of four children, art faded rapidly into the background, until recently. During the summer of 2000 a very good friend introduced me to watercolour. It was like coming home. I am not one who takes what they see and puts it down on paper exactly as is. I could, but it would be easier to take a photograph, blow it up and hang that. I believe an artist sees beyond reality, takes from their imagination, memory or what they see around them and transforms this into images unique to and imbued with a sense of themselves. The images I paint have to touch me in some way. Although I start with a drawing, the painting process is intuitive and spontaneous, especially with colour. I am most within myself when I paint.
