Meetings 2019

Put these dates on your calendar! We meet on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

• October 19  Valleyview Community Centre, 2288 park Drive,  Kamloops .  Bring a piece or two for critiquing.  Presentation by Ila Crawford from TRU on safety in the studio.

• November 13 Blind Bay Hall, Blind Bay. Proposed program: instuctional video then group art project.  More later.

The public is welcome to attend one meeting at no charge, a second meeting requires become a supporting member.  A non-member is welcome to attend the demo only from 12:30 – 3pm for 5$ fee.

Meetings open with Chapter business, followed by critiques of art pieces brought in by members. We encourage bringing 1 or 2 artworks either completed or in progress for input from peers and AFCA'S. Critiques are a valuable learning tool that help everyone grow.

We serve light snacks, tea and coffee, but bring a lunch. After lunch, there is a demonstration by a Federation member or non-member, or we hold a learning event.  If you are not a member, but curious about what the Chapter can offer, you are welcome to attend a meeting at no charge, .

We now have the ability to order at wholesale prices from this Kelowna company.  They have a truck that does a circle route from Kelowna, through Vernon, Salmon Arm, Chase, Kamloops and Merritt. There is a flat fee for delivery.  We can arrange a central spot for artists to meet the truck.

Tracy offered lots of ideas on new advances in framing and how to enhance your chances of selling a piece.

They are usually very busy pre Christmas but Tracy encouraged us to call and get suggestions.  The artists who use their products give them very high reviews.

Guest Artist Demo with Yvonne Reddick

“I am excited to do a demo for the TNSC. The subject matter will be rocks under water and how to glaze over the monochromatic underpainting to add colour with both transparent and opaque pigments, working wet into wet.

We can go over how to glaze the rocks to ‘push’ them under the water and to show the light playing on top reflecting various colours. So much fun!

Looking forward to seeing all of you and to our time together sharing some of the magic of painting.”

Barb Klie, who is an outstanding photographer, will show some of her winter photos and talk about issues such as composition, contrast, colour, leading lines toward your centre of interest, and creative viewpoints.  Here is a sample

We will also show a 20 minute video by Mike Svob on values, which ties in nicely with Barb's images.  Please bring a pencil, a sketch pad and a few of your reference photos that need work on values. We will work together to improve the values in your image.
