Have you ever wanted to look over the shoulder of an artist while they work their magic? Do you want professional feedback on your artwork to improve and hear about your strengths?
That is what Passion for Painting provides all in one day!

Each spring, in conjunction with the Open National Show, the TNSC hosts 3 Signature Status Artists to demonstrate their professional art practice in a variety of mediums plus a one hour critique session of artwork brought in by you and or others.

The artists share what tools and supplies they use, their tried and true experiences with materials including the pitfalls and successes, even where to find hard-to-get things.

Each artist let's you see their methods in various mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolour, pencil, encaustic, and more, in different genres from figurative and portraiture, wildlife, abstract, landscape and so on!

CRITIQUE
For one hour, the artists will look at artworks that you bring in, on a first come first served basis. Even if your piece is not critiqued there will be plenty to take away from listening to the critiques of other paintings. Feel free to bring in artworks that have been declined show entry to gain insight as to why and this can help artwork be accepted in the future. There is time to ask questions and learn so much.

Each demo is 90 minutes plus the 60 minute segment of critique, that adds up to 5.5 hours of non-stop art inspiring information!!!

Only $25 for members  $35 non-members  no tax
Pay at the door by debit, credit, or cash.

LALITA HAMILL AFCA

Description

Do you have any unfinished paintings tucked away because you don't know whether they're worth finishing, how to finish them, or if they should just be gessoed or tossed? If so, bring them in!
Lalita will not only assess such works, but for those who are willing, she will demo by painting acrylic on top of some of the artwork. Depending on what people bring, the aim of these demos will be to show how to resolve common problems such as muddy colours, drawing mishaps, visual chaos, overstated unity, and loss of form. Lalita will do her best to match your style when painting on your work. If you have a reference image, please bring that too.
If in doubt, clear it out…time for a studio spring cleaning!

KIT BELL HEAD SHOTKit Bell Birds of a Feather

Description

Give your paintings a vibrant, expressive start with an underpainting. The spontaneous “happenings” that occur during this process will provide your work with a path, allowing subsequent layers of paint to build visual depth and rich texture.

Kit Bell will share her method of starting her paintings with a loose, colourful underpainting. She will cover various methods of progressing with the image, such as transparent, opaque, positive and negative painting using a wide variety of tools. Kit will start with a PowerPoint presentation to show finished paintings and the various stages of their development as well as provide hands-on demonstrations of her techniques.

Artist Biography

Kit Bell is an award-winning artist living and working in Kelowna, BC. Primarily a landscape painter, she seeks to record the transient effects of light and the seasons on the landscape.  Kit wants to share what her trained artist’s eye, and imagination, sees with others.  Working in a variety of media allows her to choose the best process for an image.
