Welcome to our February 2025 Edition of the TNSC Newsletter
As we step into February, we're excited to bring updates, inspiration, and opportunities from the TNSC. Whether you're here to stay informed, celebrate our members' achievements, or discover upcoming events and workshops, we hope this newsletter serves as a source of creativity and connection.
Let's Dive into the latest news and happenings!
Join us on March 15th to welcome Alex Fong! Alex's watercolours offer an impressionistic view of nature, often accented by a sense of joy and whimsy. "There's an intriguing mystical quality with watercolour which is almost spiritual in nature," says Fong. "The way an image is painted can change, even as the paint is drying. To a large extent, the medium does the work." Come and see Alex work his magic with watercolour!

His work reflects both his extensive study of oriental artists, and the influence of impressionists such as Van Gogh and Monet.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Hello fellow members! It has been a busy year for me, having moved from Lac Le Jeune to Naramata. I'm afraid my art practice was sorely neglected and I felt I lost my creative spark. That was a scary place to be! Entering the January Strada Easel challenge really helped me regain my confidence. It was a struggle at times but I'm not one to give up on a challenge! Have you ever faced a similar struggle? There are ways to break through it! Allow yourself to take a break (it's OK!), try some new techniques or just "play" with your paints and brushes and see what transpires. No pressure! Losing creative spark is common for an artist, just know it will return with renewed focus, deeper inspiration and growth. As always, I would enjoy hearing from you! email me @president@tnsc.ca

TNSC WORKSHOP with MICHAEL KING - May 2025
Abstracting Landscapes: Rethinking Your Approach to Painting

![]() |
About the Instructor:
Michael King, a Canadian painter, is passionate about plein air (outdoor) painting, concentrating on capturing the essence of the landscape. His direct experiences in the outdoors serve as a driving force behind the creation of his more extensive studio works. Always looking for the nuance of light, shape and colour, he combines representational elements with an Impressionistic style. His paintings strike a balance between realistic observation and abstract interpretation resulting in a unique and captivating aesthetic.
With his formal education in Industrial Design from Carleton University in Ottawa, King’s career in product design influenced his approach to his art. King places a strong emphasis on mastery of the technical aspects of painting, design and his need for simplicity.
As an enthusiastic instructor, his workshops teach painting and design in a straightforward, accessible manner with a philosophy grounded in scientific fundamentals of perception, anatomy and observation, along with time-proven principles of art. View Michael's website here: MICHAELKINGART
