VINEYARD VISTA at Monte Creek Winery

A Day of Plein Air in the Vineyard Recap

Monte Creek winery Monte Creek winery Sept 21
Monte Creek winery Paintings displayed Monte Creek winery

The inaugural Vineyard Vista at Monte Creek Winery was a tremendous success! Artists from the TNSC and a special guest, Michael King, SFCA, gathered to capture the beauty of the vineyard through plein air painting. The scenic surroundings, with rows of lush vines, silt bluffs, and the hills in the background, provided a stunning setting for creative expression. Artists enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere, inspired conversations and shared passion for art.  A wonderful blend of laughter, sharing and fun.

As the day unfolded, both artists and visitors alike were treated to live demos, a small gallery of our completed art works, and of course great food and exceptional wine from Monte Creek winery. This first event was a perfect blend of art and nature, setting the stage for more memorable experiences to come! A Super Day!

Lalita Hamill Workshop - October 5/6, 2024
Register Today!

We are bringing Lalita to you in October to further our very popular Foundation Skills Program. This weekend workshop will be all about "Working from Photographs”. In this workshop we will explore the many possibilities in which the found photographic image can be translated into the painted image. Participants will assess photos by others as well as their own. We will discuss the selection of visual reference sources in order to ensure the participants are using images most likely to set them up for success; this depends on things like their technical skill level, style, and other factors. Utilizing the photo as a tool and source of reference, and not as a mere copying device, participants will broaden their composition and painting skills. The aim will be to interpret the image, disregard the ‘lies’, and transform the flatness of the photographic image through the tangible and flexible nature of paint. Students will walk away with a greater sense of understanding and confidence when taking, choosing, and interpreting their visual references.

SEPTEMBER ZOOM DEMO DAY - RECAP

Our Zoom Demo was held on September 18th.  We had a small but very enthusiastic group attend to see our guest artist, Linda Lovisa, demonstrate her unique arcylic painting techniques.  Her motto, "Use More Paint" and how she loads her brush were two key highlights of her presentation.  Below is her finished painting, a serene scene from Northern Ontario.  Linda has generously offered to answer any questions from members who attended the demo @lindalovisaartcanada@gmail.com.  You can view more of Linda's art @ www.lindalovisaartcanada.ca   Linda provides online art instruction via zoom.

WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR YOU!
EXECUTIVE POSITION - TREASURER
Do you have basic bookkeeping skills and a desire to be part of the TNSC Executive Team? We are looking for someone to take over the position of Treasurer for the 2025/2026 term.  Duties include paying bills, writing cheques for shows and awards, depositing cash to the bank, booking venues for shows and keeping a record of expenses and income.  If this is something you feel you could do, please contact Elaine at president@tnsc.ca to talk about it! Remember... we will only have an active and thriving Chapter with the help and engagement of our members!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Hello fellow artists!  Ive said it before and I'll say it again!  What a wonderful group of talented artists we have in our Chapter!  Your art always impresses and it needs to be seen!  Lately, I am hearing people express concern about the lack of places to show our art in Kamloops.  Art venues and organizations are struggling to stay afloat.  It is so important, now more that ever, that our members stay active and involved in our Chapter.  Without your engagement and involvement in our shows, workshops and demo days, the TNSC would cease to exist as well.  Let's all continue to participate in the many creative options the TNSC has to offer. Dust off those brushes and make our art shine!    Reach out to me @president@tnsc.ca

WORKSHOPS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Figurative Impressionism with Debbie Lively - For Oils or Acrylics

Date: November 8,9 /2024, Place: Valleyview Community Hall
Time: 9:30-3:30  Cost: $225. GST included

Lively Figure 1 Lively Figure 2

Painting the figure is sometimes intimidating for artists. Impressionism has captivated me so much because of its freedom and spontaneous look. Figures can tell a story that draws the viewer in. Learning to see and simplify the shapes of value with loose brush strokes can really be freeing and amazingly fun!! In this course I want to teach you the thought process and techniques I use to paint a figure and a landscape in a much more impressionistic manner.  You can use your own photo references or use the ones I'll be painting from. The goal is to finish at least two smaller paintings.
