TNSC DEMO DAY RECAP

Our Demo Day was held by Zoom on November 15th.  This was our first time coming to you by zoom and it was excellent! We had 18 participants on the call and the demonstration by James Koll was outstanding.  He is an amazing watercolourist!  He took a painting from the sketch stage to a closely finished painting in a mere 1.5 hours!  A big thank you to James for sharing his inspiration, techniques and artistic views with us.  At the end of the demonstration, we had our critique session.  Seven members submitted artwork for critique and the feedback was both constructive and postive.  We can all learn something from these critique sessions as it is a way to understand what makes a great piece of art.  Inusn Kang was the winner of our critique prize draw which was a $20 gift certificate from Preferred Picture Frame. Congratulations Insun!

Here is the finished demo painting.  You can view James work on his website:  JAMESKOLLFINEART

OUR NEXT TNSC DEMO DAY  - February 7th

Our next Demo Day is scheduled for Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 6:30pm by Zoom.  We are thrilled to bring you these demo days by Zoom.  The weather in the winter can be so unpredicatable and no one really enjoys driving in the snow...so, this is a wonderful alternative and a great opportunity for all our members, near and far, to be involved.  More information will be provided closer to the date!

SUSIE CIPOLLA WORKSHOP - COMING IN MAY!
We are thrilled to bring you a workshop with Susie Cipolla!  This is a rare opportunity for you to learn and create with one of our Senior Signature Members! Mark your calendars now - coming May 4/5, 2024.

Here is what we will learn:  Your painting skills are built by practicing and training and by challenging yourself with new techniques and ideas. This intermediate level acrylic workshop will help you do just that. We will spend 2 days on fun and challenging drills and exercises involving speed, limited palette, limited and expressive brush strokes, tool use, different grounds and more. This workshop is for acrylics (as it dries quickly) but the techniques will apply to other media, like oils. For more information and to register click HERE

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

What a year we have had and it's not over yet!  Our chapter really took it up a notch this year and thanks to you, we are seeing more of our members getting involved.  We hosted three art shows, two Passion for Painting sessions, a workshop, a full calendar of Summer Plein Air, winter schedule of Time to Paint, plus our Demo Days and Information Sharing!  Wow!  Having said that, it's time I gave a big shout out and thank you to our Executive Team.  Without this dedicated and hardworking group we wouldn't have the vibrant, active chapter we all enjoy.  There are lots of reasons to be a part of the TNSC but what I find the most rewarding are the relationships I have made with other artists, meeting new artists in our group and staying in touch with all of you.  I look forward to the year ahead and I will see you at our Christmas Lunch on December 16th!  Happy Holidays and Happy Painting!  Elaine

ART TIPS AND TRICKS TO IMPROVE YOUR ART!

What is my visual path in my painting? What is my focal point?

Have you ever thought about what draws you to a painting, where does the viewer's eye go and where does it stop? As a painter, am I utilizing a visual path to draw the viewer's eye in and around my painting? The journey of the eye is something to think about as it creates interest to the viewer. Here is a link to a great guide by Australian artist Dan Scott. You can also download the entire guide, or print out for future reference.
